Traveling to Skagway, Alaska

Due to the poor conditions of the road from Whitehorse, YT, to Dawson City, YT, Jeff & I decided not to take that side trip to see Dawson City.  Instead, we decided to take a day trip over to Skagway, Alaska.  This was a fabulous “Plan B”!  Take a look at the views we had traveling to and from Skagway…..

I just loved the way the clouds hugged the tops of the Coastal Mountains as we wound our way over the country road heading back to the USA for a day!

For most of the day, it was overcast and cloudy.  However, at the moment we viewed Emerald Lake, the sun was out and we had beautiful blue skies with white puffy clouds!  Check out the color of the lake – this is the way it really looked!  No enhancement on my part!

In this shot the overcast clouds are rolling in, and the sun was hiding behind a veil of clouds.  I really like the sort of other-worldly feel of this image.

I love this image!  We had some great reflective images today, and this one is one of my favorites.  I just love the texture of the clouds, repeated in the lake’s reflection.  Add to that the reflection of the mountain shorelines on either side of the lake, and the framing of the greenery in the foreground of the image, and it’s just wonderful!  I was so lucky to be there to be able to capture it!  Nature really is an artist!

Here’s another perfect reflection image.  We just had to stop so I could capture this image as well.  The overcast day seemed to make the green much more saturated looking than usual and really just pop out at you.

Here’s another favorite reflection image from the day.  The clouds are covering the top of the mountain, but it still reflects so beautifully in the still lake.  There’s a touch of green from the shore, and it adds a nice touch to the mainly gray land and sky scape.
Enjoy!
